Whittemore Improvement Association

WIA BEACH RULES

1. This is NOT a public beach. Only paid members of WIA, their families, guests, or tenants may use the dock, float, tables, parking lot, and shed. Officers or members of the association shall have the right to request identification of persons accessing and using the beach or property.
2. Do NOT leave trash (including bottles and cigarette butts) on the beach, picnic area, or in the porta-potty.
3. There is NO SMOKING on the beach lot beyond the split rail fence. Smoking is allowed in the grassy area where the picnic tables are.
4. No rough play on the beach, dock, or float. We discourage diving from the dock and float. There are no lifeguards. USE THE BEACH AND THE WATER AT YOUR OWN RISK
5. No dogs are allowed on the beach (sandy area) from 8 AM to 7 PM. The only exception is that dogs may be walked on a leash across the sand to/from boats at the end of the dock. This hourly exclusion will be suspended between Columbus Day and Memorial Day. Dogs are allowed on the grassy area at any time provided they are leashed. Dogs must be under control at all times and not create a nuisance or a danger to anyone. Since this is a barefoot summer place, you must clean up after your dog!
6. Power boats must stay out of the swimming area, as delineated by the swimming float lines. All powerboats approaching the swimming area or dock must proceed at headway speed when within 150 feet of shore.
7. The dock is to be used for the pickup and discharge of passengers only. No boat may be left unattended, or tied to the dock, since others may need the use of the dock. Use caution when approaching or leaving the dock as swimmers may be in the area. Re-fueling from the dock is forbidden.
8. Non-power boats such as canoes, kayaks, or small sailboats may proceed with caution through the swimming area. These boats shall not be beached in a manner that blocks access to the water. The rack on the north side of the grassy area is for members only privately owned canoes and kayaks. These boats may be stored here by pre-approved permit only (by submitting an annual fee to the treasurer before the summer).  All kayaks/canoes must be secured with a chain and lock. No boat may be left on the rack over the winter; failure to remove your boat by the date announced at the Closing Meeting may cause denial of use of the rack in the following year.
9. No vehicles (including ATVs, bicycles, motorcycles, cars, trailers, etc.) are allowed beyond the regular parking lot. Motorized wheelchairs or similar handicap access devices are permitted.
10. The shed is for storage of beach chairs only. DO NOT store any toys, games, or umbrellas there. The shed will be emptied and cleaned periodically. The date will be announced at the Closing meeting, emailed to all members, and posted on the doors; items left after that date are subject to disposal.
11. Fireworks are expressly forbidden anywhere on the property (beach, grassy area, parking lot)
